December 2006
The first couple of weeks of this month we had
beautiful weather and flat calm seas. After the middle of the month it got rainy mainly at night. And on the 20th a Cyclone hit the far south of Seychelles, a 1000 Km. from Mahe. Here around Mahe we had stormy weather, with high seas and lot's of rain. Followed by periods of sunny weather, after which it would turn bad again. The visibility was still very good around most of the dive sites, and well, we know which sites not to visit during/after storms and heavy rainfall. And the water temperature, it was a lovely 28 degrees Celcius.

Whale Sharks
We saw them several times, during dives, while on our way to a dive site from the boat such as the one on the left, which we saw on the way to Shark Bank.
Light House
This is where Gilly made this dive, and saw a Whale Shark, Manta Rays, and Mobula Rays. The Mobula Rays look like Manta Rays, but have their mouth not in front in between the two fleshy lobes, which are called Cephalic Fins. Their mouth is on the underside, which can be seen on the picture in the second row below. And they are smaller than the giant Manta Rays.
Aquarium
Gilly has a good eye for spotting odd creatures,
again he saw this Slipper Lobster and a Indian Ocean Walkman,
this time at Aquarium, a popular site in the bay of Beau Vallon.

Shark Bank
A small site in the middle of nowhere,
all the life concentrates on and around this small dive site.
Often the currents are strong here, but therefore you get to see
the big fish, so it is worthwhile the effort.
Gran Bazaar
This is a new site, in the logbook of next month you will see more pictures of this site.
The site has real good hard corals and some very good fish life. Hawksbill Turtles, Eagle Rays, Stingrays,
and schooling Batfish can be seen here, but also Lionfish, Devil Scorpion Fish and loads of Schooling Yellow Snappers.
Biter Rock
With it's tall towering rock formations this is one of
the most beautiful underwater landscapes surrounded by pure white sand
on the deep side. This is also where the Grey Reef Sharks, Nurse Sharks
giant Stingrays and Eagle Rays come in play. Pictures, left,
right and in the four rows below are from this site.
Beacon Rocks
When diving on the Victoria side of Mahe we frequently visit this site.
The visibility is often good here and there is fish life in abundance, and all in shallow depths of up to 16 meters only.
Manis Bank
Visibility was not always perfect here, but still very enjoyable as there is much reef fish,
lobsters, but also Stingrays, Eagle Rays, White Tip Reef Sharks, and even a Grey Reef Shark.
Lost City
Our dives here were as good as always, huge Stingrays, White Tip Reef Sharks, many Lobsters and huge male Hawksbill Turtles can be seen here. And all that in a landscape of huge granite rocks.
Toukoula
Brissare Rocks
Twin Barges Wreck
Jackpot
Whale Sharks near the coast of Glacis
Night Dive at Twin Barges
Marianne
The ingredients: Grey Reef Sharks and a good
portion of other fish all in a perfect visibility.
Marsoin
Again a new site on the east side of Mahe.
Here are many anemones with both Skunk Anemone Fish and Seychelles Anemone Fish. We got to see
several Hawksbill Turtles, Lobsters, a White Tip Reef Shark and many schooling fish.
