WHALE SHARKS, we saw them
many times, not only from the surface and while snorkeling as is mostly
the case. This time we were lucky and we also saw them several times
during our dives! Every time we see them we still think it is
magnificent, they are not only big and harmless but also quite playful,
at least the younger ones. They stick around and seem to be as curious
about us, as we are about them.
We saw WHALE SHARKS near Chuckles, Light House, Dan Milieu, and at L'ilot.

December 2005 The weather in general was fine, only the last week of December we had a lot of rain and rough seas. The visibility of under water was very good at the end of the month, but at the beginning of the month we had cold water (26 degrees Celsius) coming up bringing in plankton and some encounters with rare animals.

Chuckles We had bad visibility but came to see several Lobsters, Lionfish, Moray eels and a Hawksbill Turtle, and then at the end of the dive I saw this huge PATTERNED EAGLE RAY. She had a massive head, and very strange I could not see her eyes, she seemed to have just dark spots and I was so close that I could touch her if I wanted. I have seen a patterned Eagle Ray before but never so close and long. She stayed around and swam a full circle before she suddenly shot off like a bullet. But before she did so, I swam beside and above here and gosh she was so big, from wingtip to wingtip I guess it must have been 5 meters and she had a tail which we guess was 5 meters long as well.

Aquarium We had bad visibility here at the beginning of the month but as everywhere also here we had clear water towards the end. There were loads of fish around and a Green Turtle came around several times.

Bay Ternay Marine Park We saw the same Green Turtle every time we visited the park to dive. She was still young but curious it seemed and not afraid of us like Green Turtles often are. The visibility was mostly very good and there was much more to see, also the baby White Tip Reef Sharks were there, a Hawksbill Turtle and of course all the reef fish.

Cap Matoopa The visibility here was excellent. As usual during this time of the year the current comes from the south-west which brings in the clear water that we all love. |

L'ilot Not only we saw the WHALE SHARKS here, but there was so much more to see. Schooling Big Eye Jacks, Hawksbill Turtles, Mobula Rays, Eagle Rays, Giant Sweet Lips, schooling Fusiliers, schooling Silver Batfish, Napoleon Wrasses, Humphead Parrotfish, and besides that the usual coral fishes, moray eels, and I could go on for a little while. This site keeps you busy, and is worth while visiting more than once as the whole site can not be seen in one dive. The pictures below are from this dive site. |
